Refreshing Peach and Lemon Iced Tea: A Delightful Recipe

This classic iced tea blend is elevated with the sweet essence of peaches and a bright, zesty kick from fresh lemon, making it an ideal beverage for any time of year.

Yields: 4 servings Prep time: 15 minutes Chill time: 2-4 hours (or overnight)

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups water
  • 4-5 black tea bags (or 1/4 cup loose-leaf black tea)
  • 2 ripe peaches, pitted and sliced (plus extra for garnish)
  • 1 lemon, thinly sliced (plus extra for garnish)
  • 2-4 tablespoons honey or agave nectar (or to taste)
  • Fresh mint sprigs (optional, for garnish)
  • Ice

Instructions:

  1. Brew the Tea: In a heatproof pitcher or large jar, place the tea bags (or loose-leaf tea). Bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Pour the hot water over the tea bags/loose-leaf tea. Let it steep for 3-5 minutes for black tea, or according to your preferred strength. Remove and discard the tea bags or strain out the loose-leaf tea.
  2. Sweeten: While the tea is still warm, stir in the honey or agave nectar until it’s fully dissolved. Taste and adjust the sweetness to your liking.
  3. Prepare Peaches and Lemon: Add the sliced peaches and lemon slices to the warm tea. You can gently muddle some of the peach slices to release more of their juice and flavor.
  4. Chill: Place the pitcher in the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 2-4 hours, or ideally overnight. This allows the peach and lemon flavors to fully infuse into the tea and ensures it’s thoroughly cold.
  5. Serve: When ready to serve, fill glasses with ice. Pour the chilled peach and lemon iced tea over the ice, ensuring some peach and lemon slices make it into each glass.
  6. Garnish: Garnish each glass with additional fresh peach slices and a sprig of mint, if desired. Enjoy your refreshing drink!

Tips for the Best Flavor:

  • Tea Choice: While black tea is traditional, feel free to experiment with green tea or even a decaffeinated black tea for a lighter option.
  • Ripeness of Peaches: Ripe peaches will offer the most natural sweetness and flavor. If your peaches aren’t very ripe, you might need a little more sweetener.
  • Citrus Boost: For an extra tangy kick, squeeze a little fresh lemon juice directly into your glass before serving.
  • Make Ahead: This iced tea tastes even better the next day, as the flavors have more time to meld.
  • Sparkling Option: For a fizzy twist, top off your glass with a splash of sparkling water or club soda before serving.
