Junior League of Philadelphia: Fighting Hunger with Kindness

The Junior League of Philadelphia Honors Hunger Action Month with International Find the Good Day

A Day of Service Bringing Meals and Kindness to the Philadelphia Community

Philadelphia, PA — September 2025 — The Junior League of Philadelphia, Inc. (JLP) recently joined communities worldwide in celebrating International Find the Good Day, aligning its efforts with Hunger Action Month to address food insecurity across the region.

On Saturday, September 20, 2025, JLP members gathered at their Ardmore Headquarters with a clear mission: to prepare 140 fresh meals for the Mama-Tee Community Fridges, which serve neighborhoods across Philadelphia. From morning through the afternoon, volunteers worked side by side, assembling nutritious meals that would later be distributed to families and individuals facing food insecurity.

More Than Just Meals

While the event produced tangible results—stocking fridges with ready-to-eat meals—it also carried a deeper purpose. The project embodied the spirit of Find the Good Day, a global initiative dedicated to fostering kindness and positive change.

Mama-Tee has fridges across the Philadelphia region, offering access to fresh food for food-insecure neighbors and families. The meals prepared by JLP members included a wrap, side salad, and yogurt, which were distributed to community fridges at senior living centers, schools, and pharmacies within the city.

“Hunger is one of the most urgent challenges facing our city,” said Pam Phojanakong, President of the Junior League of Philadelphia. “By making meals together, we’re not only nourishing our neighbors but also sending the message that no one should feel invisible when it comes to access to food.”

Local Action, Global Movement

International Find the Good Day encourages people everywhere to make small choices that spread positivity—whether by volunteering, sharing resources, or simply uplifting others. The JLP’s participation highlighted how local acts of service connect to a much larger, worldwide movement of kindness.

This initiative came at the perfect time in September, during Hunger Action Month, which is organized by Feeding America to raise awareness about the prevalence of food insecurity and hunger across communities. Providing healthy food to families and creating a positive impact on the health and wellness of individuals in the Philadelphia area is at the center of the JLP’s mission and philanthropic focus.

“There’s something powerful about knowing that on this day, people around the world are finding their own ways to ‘do good,’” shared a JLP member and volunteer. “It reminds us that even small acts—like making sandwiches or chopping vegetables—can ripple outward and inspire real change.”

Continuing the Mission

For more than 100 years, The Junior League of Philadelphia has empowered women to lead community-driven change. Through programs that support health, wellness, and civic engagement, the organization continues to bring resources and compassion where they are most needed.

“Find the Good Day is such a powerful reminder of what makes the Junior League shine: women working together to develop new volunteer opportunities and make an impact in the city we love so much,” added Phojanakong. “This day is just one part of our mission to grow the potential of women as change agents and our work to help distribute healthy food to families and individuals in need.”

As Hunger Action Month reminds us each year, addressing food insecurity requires collective effort. With events like this, JLP proves that when people come together to “find the good,” small actions ripple outward—nourishing both bodies and spirits. For more information, please visit their website.
