MONTEREY — Spyker unveiled the C8 Preliator XXV Coupé at The Quail during Monterey Car Week, a hand-built flagship hypercar marking a new chapter for a marque that traces its roots to 1880. The car pairs an 800-horsepower twin-turbo engine with a true manual gearbox and a handmade aluminum body, with production limited to 25 examples, each individually commissioned.

The C8 Preliator XXV runs on a completely redesigned in-house spaceframe, its aluminum body panels newly shaped by Coventry Prototype Panels in England — the same partner Spyker has relied on for its coachbuilt bodies for years. The fuel tank has been relocated from the sills to a trapezoidal space behind the seats and ahead of the engine, a placement drawn from Spyker’s own Le Mans race cars, and the engine bay opens fully through a push-button “butterfly mode” mechanism.

Aviation has shaped Spyker’s design language since the company merged with the Dutch Aircraft Factory in 1914, and the C8 Preliator XXV pushes that lineage further. NACA ducts replace the turbine-style intakes of the 2009 C8 Aileron. A fin tail returns for the first time since a subtle 2006 appearance, this time echoing the fin tail of the original 1919 Spyker C1 Aerocoque directly. The headlights carry the car’s own XXV name; the taillights are shaped to resemble fighter jet afterburners. An isogrid lattice pattern — a structure originally developed to lighten rocket frames without sacrificing strength — recurs across the grilles, vents, pedals, exhaust mesh and seat upholstery.

The name fits: Preliator translates to “warrior” in Latin. Founder Victor Muller is back at the helm of a company Hendrik Jan and Jacobus Spijker started in the Netherlands in 1880 — one hundred and forty-six years, two bankruptcies, and now a coupé built to outlast both. The unveiling also marks a new ownership chapter for Spyker, following an investment from co-owner Volodymyr Nosov and a partnership with W Group, a European fintech and blockchain infrastructure company.

With the C8 Preliator XXV Coupé, Spyker returns to the same instinct that built its reputation the first time: fewer cars, made by hand, built to be driven rather than displayed.
