Demna’s Debut: Gucci’s Transformative Primavera Collection

Milan was ready. The fashion world was watching. And Demna delivered.

The Gucci Primavera Fall 2026 runway show was more than a collection — it was a coronation. Held at the magnificent Palazzo delle Scintille in Milan, the space was transformed into a museum-like sanctuary, lined with replica marble statues from Florence’s legendary Uffizi Gallery — a deliberate nod to Guccio Gucci’s origins in the Renaissance city. The setting alone told the story: this was a house reclaiming its identity.

Newly appointed creative director Demna, the Georgian designer best known for his transformative tenure at Balenciaga, chose to name his debut runway collection “Primavera” — Italian for spring — a direct reference to Sandro Botticelli’s iconic painting housed at the Uffizi. The name was not accidental. This was a rebirth.

The collection opened with a white second-skin hosiery minidress — clean, direct, and unapologetic. What followed was 83 looks rooted in body-first dressing. Skintight silhouettes, form-fitting leather jackets, sheer fabrications, and sculpted trousers dominated the runway. Demna stripped Gucci back to its most seductive core, drawing clear inspiration from Tom Ford’s celebrated 1995 and 1996 collections while forging a vision entirely his own.

Accessories were central to the narrative. The iconic Bamboo 1947 bag returned in a sleeker, more refined form. The house’s signature Flora motif — originally designed for Grace Kelly in 1966 — was revisited in a fluid silk slip dress. Demna also introduced the Manhattan sneaker, his first footwear design for Gucci, alongside updated archival minaudières and elegant loafers.

The runway cast was a master class in cultural relevance. Emily Ratajkowski, Vittoria Ceretti, Karlie Kloss, Mariacarla Boscono, and Amelia Gray all walked. The show reached its unforgettable apex when Kate Moss closed the runway in a backless glittering maxidress, exposing a diamond-studded GG thong — a knowing, provocative wink to Gucci’s most daring era.

The front row matched the energy of the runway. Paris and Nicky Hilton arrived dressed head-to-toe in Gucci, embodying the very woman Demna was designing for — confident, intentional, and impossibly chic. Paris in a deep crimson pleated midi with a dramatic bow neckline and black Horsebit pumps. Nicky in a bold floral printed dress with a yellow bow collar, pink cat-eye sunglasses, and blush kitten heels. Sisters. Front row. Fully committed.

Also seated among the marble statues were Donatella Versace, Alessandro Michele, Demi Moore, and a constellation of names that confirmed what the industry already suspected — the world had its eyes on Gucci.

Demna said it best in his pre-show letter: “Gucci is culture. It is a way of thinking and a way of being. Gucci must become an adjective.”
